Parallax IDE for Chrome
NOTICE (Updated Aug 2025): Google has deprecated the technologies that Parallax IDE is built upon. We've detailed what this means below, by platform.
Win/Mac Users: Chrome Browser support for Parallax IDE on Win/Mac ended Mar 2023; however, Parallax replaced the original Chrome Webstore Parallax IDE with a natively-installed version so you can continue to run today (see Win/Mac downloads at the bottom of this page). Further updates may occur; return here later for new information. (Also see BASIC Stamp Editor for Windows as an alternative.)
Chromebook Users: Per Google's Oct 2024 Announcement:
- Education/Enterprise Users on Managed Chromebooks: Parallax IDE can still be installed and run if it is admin-installed using Google for Education/Enterprise tools, until Feb 2028 (upon release of ChromeOS v169), or until Oct 2028 (for Chromebooks using the "LTS" (Long Term Support) channel of ChromeOS releases).
- Individual Users or Personal Chromebooks: Parallax IDE can no longer be user-installed and run (as of Aug 2025 with ChromeOS v139+).
Slow Downloads? If you're experiencing long delays at the start of every download to your board or bot, try turning off Bluetooth on your Win/Mac/Chromebook computer. Recent versions of Chrome and ChromeOS changed the way Bluetooth devices are presented to software that communicate serially. On certain computers, this adds a significant delay at the start of the board or robot download process when Parallax IDE requests a list of available ports from the OS. Turning off the computer's Bluetooth hardware before programming these devices makes this interaction much faster.
COPPA/PII Compliance: The Parallax IDE Google Chrome Application does not deliver any personally identifiable information (PII) to Parallax Inc. No registration email is required. If the end-user is logged into their Chrome browser or Chrome OS on a Chromebook, Parallax IDE automatically uses their Google Account's Google Drive to sync their local BS2 programs onto their cloud storage and back again. There's no actual log-in or any email address collection within Parallax IDE itself.
